Chimney Rock State Park brings the best of the mountains together in one place. For immediate gratification, take the elevator to the top. Or get a real sense of accomplishment by hiking the 499-step Outcroppings trail to the 315-foot Chimney Rock, where amazing 75-mile views of Hickory Nut Gorge, Lake Lure, and the Carolina Piedmont await.

With several unique hiking trails, the Park has something for everyone, from the family-friendly Great Woodland Adventure Trail with 12 interactive discovery stations to the adventurous Four Seasons Trail which climbs more than 400 feet. Visitors can catch their breath at Devil’s Head and the Opera Box on a hike to Exclamation Point, where panoramic views of the 14-mile Hickory Nut Gorge are sure to delight.

Head up even higher along the Skyline Trail, which features the Park’s highest lookout, Peregrine’s Point, at 2,640 feet. Meander through lush dense forest on this trek before reaching the upper cascades of the Park’s 404-foot waterfall. Be sure to hike the Hickory Nut Falls trail, one of the highest in the East.
